In October 2014, West Hollywood appointed poet and educator Steven Reigns as the city’s first Poet Laureate. Now well into his second of a two-year term, Steven and I sat down for a chat. The result is a lush conversation about libraries’ effect on him as a queer youth, discovering the power to make our own literary communities, and why he asked LGBT seniors to write about their first times.
I’m thrilled to have my conversation with Steven as Slant Rhyme’s inaugural feature. Listen to the first of a two-part interview here:
Visit stevenreigns.com for information on Steven’s upcoming workshops and events.
This interview was produced by Michelle-Marie Gilkeson and first aired on IMRU Radio, a radio magazine covering issues related to the LGBTQ community for over forty years.
